Again this year, I am posting photos of the woodworking projects that were entered in the Texas SkillsUSA Skills and Leadership conference (formerly known as VICA) this past week. There were in excess of 200 projects entered. The projects were judged by a group of about 20 professional cabinet makers. The students are enrolled in Cabinet Making and Carpentry classes.
All of the students had to compete at one of 13 district competitions and receive a blue ribbon at that level to advance to state. While looking at the primary project in the photo, you can see in the bachground some of the many other projects that were entered. Projects with multiple blue ribbons were projects completed by a group of students.
This table was one of the Best of Shows.
Note the laminated curved table legs.
I was chairman of the project hall at one of the district competitions. This was our district Best of Show and it received a Best of Show at state.
This project was from our district competition. The seat lifts up for storage.
Another project from our district. The serving tray lifts off. Every other metal bar is part of the tray, the remaining bars are the top of the base.
The following projects received Best of Show ratings at state. They were from other district competitions.
Loved the carving in the headboard of this bed.
A true cabinet making project.
This group of projects was from the district competition I chaired. All blue ribbons!
I really appreciate the opportunity of supporting the hard work of a group of fine teachers and students.
