My hand plane journey #2: Initial cleaning

The next step on my hand plane journey is to disassemble all the parts and clean everything up. I separated all of the ferrous metal parts and put them in a bath of Evapo-rust:


I also sanded off the finish on the knob and tote. The tote has a chip off of the top. I was going to ignore that but it does make the tote uncomfortable to handle. Here is a picture of all of the pieces after the initial clean up:



The Evapo-rust did a great job on removing the rust of all of the iron parts. Next up repairs.
