Dearest Friends and Family!

Thank you so very much for your kind encouragement, your prayers and your ever persistent caring. I was discharged from the hospital yesterday morning, after having abdominal surgery on Wens the 5th of February. Even though I went through ever test known to nurse and doctor…or so it seems:), every thing was coming up normal save some erosions in my stomach. Although those would cause pain they had not progressed into ulcers and therefore the doctors were sure that they were not responsible for the intense pain I was having. I was deeply adamant that I was not crazy, seeking drugs or attention and that it hurt were I told them.

Finally a surgeon came and listened to me, read me history in my chart and considered that perhaps since my kidneys and my bladder had been damaged in the same explosion that gave me the TBI, perhaps the gallbladder was also injured and although functioning was telling me it was done! His partner though that since the pain radiated to the “belly button” and then to the right lower quadrant that they should do an exploratory lap. as well. I was all for it. I new something was wrong.

Well, they found that my gallbladder was indeed enlarged and unhappy so they removed it. They found several adhesions under my ambiocal hernia repair that were sticking to my small intestines so they cut and fixed those. The found my appendix was also irritated so they removed that as well. They found another hernia, but only the tear in the wall with no intestine going through it, on my lower right side but decide to leave it as there was so much already done they did not want to stress my system out. They examined all my 28 feet of my intestine :) and found that a small section of my colon is thickened and a colonoscopy is indicated!

Coming out of the haze of surgery was not fun. My uvula swelled to the size of a pin pog ball and started to discharged dark green nasty mucus. It was very hard to swallow, but thank God not to breath. When I was finally clear headed I new they had nailed everything. I felt great…I mean sure I hurt but not like before. Everything inside felt as it should be!

I am still very sore and moving a bit awkwardly. But I feel so much better!!! I really hope this photo does not offend anyone. If so I will totally take it down. I though you might like to see what they did. Four holes, three small ones for the probes and scopes and one large, over an inch to remove everything.

Thank you all again so very much for your prayers, thoughts and compassion! LJs really is like a family! I love that!

More to follow!…

Nate
