Seating Bench Under Construction #3: Repairing some defects

https://s3.amazonaws.com/ljimg/n03juhx.jpg

A couple of the pieces of board that I’m using have some some pith showing. This is common in Walnut when you have the board that is in the middle of the tree.

One end panel had the pith on each side, bottom on one side and top on the other side.

I glued in a piece of walnut.

And then cleaned it up.

The one on the other side was a lot bigger.

It glued in fine

And it got cleaned up

The stretcher had a small defect,

I used a clamp to squash the pieces into the defect with glue.

That defect cleaned up fine. it’s on the right edge of the picture at the bottom edge.

I also rough cut the bench top and planed it down to 1 1/16” It 14 X 48 now and will be trimmed to cut off a small split to about 45” the edges will be tapered to 10 deg.

Both sides are pretty nice the bottom has a defect known as a bird speck. It’s in the upper right of the board.

Thanks for following on this journey.
