Walnut kitchen countertop #3: Glue-up almost finished

The two panels were glued board by board, which made alignment easier, especially for the 37” right side. The overall size is 80” x 27”.

After the very last gluing today, I will trim the boards for them to fit the space around the oven range and start hand planing and sanding with an ROS. The glue lines are mostly flush, but not perfectly flush all the way along the lines, so some flattening has to be done.

The sanding-after-jointing idea kind of worked: if I was careful about keeping the boards perpendicular to sanding paper, then the joining sides were getting only better; on one, rushed, I rounded the edge a bit.

Meanwhile I start getting decent edges using router with the left side shimmed by 1/16. Still require a bit of pressure to close the glue lines. I want to try trimming 1”-2” off the edges after router-jointing to see if this makes better fitting glue lines.
