Got this Toshiba laptop from a best buy deal of the dayfor 299 usd. My Dell had some serious issues .
It started to take a long time for it to boot up. It sounded like a piper cub taxiing down the runway . loud
A couple of weeks ago I was in the middle of ending a program and for some impatient reason just clicked
the power button to ‘off’ . The next log=on , I find that the Dell has crashed . I had to manually photograph
the trouble screen because it just flashed on the screen for about a second .That took a few tries . Then googled the error code ,
which was something I had never heard of before and sounded really weird .
With April 8th approaching as the mark of Microsoft not supporting Windows XP , upgrading to
Windows 8.1 seemed like a timely solution . I had heard a lot of off hand comments by people who stated
that it was too different from what they were used to , and many did not care for the changes . Even some thirty-year-olds professionals, who do almost all things on their iPhone , didn’t care for it …my daughter included .
That was surprising to me .
The night before it arrived , I spent about ….um…an hour and twenty minutes combined watching
tutorials on 8.1 . This actually took about 3 hours interspersed with snacks and trips to the patio to smoke
and general zoning out then back to tutorials .
The Toshiba is lightning fast and so so quiet . 8.1 is truly different than XP .
The search function across all the apps is cool , the swipe function is kind of sensitive on the left and
will display the charms easily . having multiple tabs open and being able to drag and drop them or line them up
and scroll between them is really novel for me . You can change some settings and run it off your desktop like windows 7 if you want ( ? ), but 8.1 is a big improvement over the piper cub , but I have a few more flight
lessons to go .
On the second day the curser froze , touchpad would not work . LMGTFY . I manually fixed that
problem , seems that you can freeze the curser function by double tapping in the upper left hand corner twice , which
I inadvertently did somehow …maybe ? . I still couldn’t tell you how I fixed that , because I don’t remember , I have retention
problems when it comes to some things . Maybe it unfroze itself after an update..? who knows….not me .
…..funny machines…..I like this one though .
