Scope creep. At least that’s what they call this at work.

So last night I was drawing out an outline and she says, “What about drawers? There’s so much wasted space under there!”

Oy.

So a platform bed would be easy, but neither of us like the look of platform beds. We like the space off the floor that you get with a normal bed, so the idea is to create one row of drawers in the space under the mattress. It would end up looking something like this (apologies for bad drawing):

Maybe three drawers per side instead of two. So now I’m trying to figure out how the drawers would work and whether removing that much of the rail will reduce the anti-racking strength. Do I use plywood for the carcass? What about the faces / rails? Dovetailed drawers? How do the carcasses join to the frame? Will the top layer of plywood sag over time?

I’ll be working on those (and I’m sure other) problems. What do you think, internet?
